A reason I’m liberal
I listen. I don’t interrupt. I respect your opinion. I want to communicate.
I’m kind.
I don’t want everyone to be liberal.
But I do want everyone to be kind.
Kind.
GPOY - 50 Shades of…..Pink?
Last night in St. Louis, grabbing sushi and drinks with the bosses, spending a co-workers money at the casino, and some much needed winding down after an exhausting symposium.
Full day in the city tomorrow, girls weekend in Nebraska, then finally to my home sweet home Sunday night.
Ready for it.
In St. Louis for work this week, and what luck - the Cubs are too! My flight was delayed last night, so I cabbed it to the hotel, threw on my jersey, and headed to the stadium.
Suffice it to say, I wasn’t the most popular person there, but I had a damn good time. LaHair hit a homer, I killed a couple hot dogs, and most importantly, WE WON!
One more stadium off my “must see” list, and one more memory made.
After changing my major 11 (yes eleven) times in college, I finally settled on Radio and Television Broadcasting as a major. I loved and flourished in actual production, but one class that really stuck was Broadcast Programming. Our main project (which ended up being my senior thesis) was to choose a new TV show debuting that fall, follow it in the ratings, and make note of what the show did to increase those ratings. We learned all about 7.2/15 Share, advertising demographics, and sweeps week. My professor looked a lot like Kelsey Grammar, and was in fact obsessed with Frasier.
This class cemented my love of television. I like a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but TV is my jam.
So when I was selected to take a Nielsen Viewing Survey, I felt it was my civic duty.
It took less than 10 minutes.
They seriously sent me 5 bucks, so I obviously felt obligated.
And if I can do anything, anything in my power to keep Parks and Rec on the air, I’m going to do it.
Sporadic Shout Out!
Thanks TB for my card! I completely forgot to mention it. You’re the best!
[My dad] taught me a very valuable lesson when I was about 12 years old. He was chatting about people who worked for him and he said, ‘Simon, everyone around you has an invisible sign on their head and it says “make me feel important”.’ I never forgot that. As I got older, I was aware that when you work on a big show or when you work for a record label, you have a lot of people around you who do a lot of hard work. You have to acknowledge what they’ve done.
“Mark and I walk to the beat of our own drummer, but together we keep a mad rhythm.”
I can’t take public transportation to work.
There’s not a Starbucks in a 50 mile radius.
I don’t have a regular spot to meet friends for Happy Hour.
Cookie Wednesday’s don’t exist.
There’s no opportunity to flirt with handsome men from neighboring offices.
People watching on the city streets is replaced with catching a cattle drive in late afternoon.
There isn’t a city skyline just outside my window.
But when this is my view from my office, I don’t miss it all that much.
You don’t say? (Taken with instagram)
Seven.
The number of birds that have flown into our building today.
My nerves are totally shot.
Yellow pants.
Lilac toes.
Green wedges.
Today is the first real day off I’ve had in a year.
I’m literally celebrating in style!
Happy Friday!
15 Things You Should Give Up
2. Give up your need for control.“By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try. The world is beyond winning.” Lao Tzu
3. Give up on blame.
4. Give up your self-defeating self-talk.
5. Give up your limiting beliefs about what you can or cannot do
6. Give up complaining.
7. Give up the luxury of criticism.
8. Give up your need to impress others.
9. Give up your resistance to change. Change is good. Change will help you move from A to B. Change will help you make improvements in your life and also the lives of those around you. Follow your bliss, embrace change – don’t resist it. “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls” Joseph Campbell
10. Give up labels. Stop labeling those things, people or events that you don’t understand as being weird or different and try opening your mind, little by little. Minds only work when open. “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.” Wayne Dyer
11. Give up on your fears. “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
12. Give up your excuses.
13. Give up the past.
14. Give up attachment. The moment you detach yourself from all things, (and that doesn’t mean you give up your love for them – because love and attachment have nothing to do with one another, attachment comes from a place of fear, while love is pure, kind, and selfless, where there is love there can’t be fear, and because of that, attachment and love cannot coexist) you can be at peace.
15. Give up living your life to other people’s expectations.
